This time next week I hope to be somewhere up north. I’m leaving on Monday morning for a road trip with one of my best friends. Our plans right now include hitting the road and heading towards Maine. If we make it to Maine we are going to treat ourselves to a Lobster Dinner. Those are the extent of our plans. I’m not sure if we’ll make it all the way there or not. This trip is going to be a fly by the seat of our pants kind of trip. I can’t wait!

It seems as I get older that time is accelerated. Life is lived on the down slope where events and activities whiz by left and right in a blur. Before you know it, your halfway into the next season of the year—which seemed so far off just a few blinks ago. For example, the summer is already racing by and next thing you know we’ll be getting ready for another school year. (And as hot as this summer has already been, we’ll probably welcome the fall.) Springtime for me was so busy that I fear I may drift through the weeks ahead in a summer daze if I don’t become intentional now...

This morning I watched Lady Gaga’s new music video for her song, "Alejandro.” I watched it because of an article I had read about a recent comment Katy Perry had made about the use of religious images in entertainment. Katy, herself a pop star bested know for the song, “I Kissed a Girl”, tweeted, “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.” The tweet just happened to be made on the day Lady Gaga was premiering her video. It didn’t take long for the connection to be made.

You've probably already heard the story many times of the near perfect game that the Detroit Tiger’s Armando Galarraga pitched on June 2. With 26 batters already retired and two outs in the bottom of the ninth (no hits, no walks, no errors), the 27th batter of the game was called “safe” by umpire Jim Joyce on a close play at first base. To everyone watching, the runner was clearly out as the replay showed. But the call had been made. All Gallarraga did was smile in disbelief...

Today I got quiet the shock. I came into the office and noticed my office door was shut and decorated with post it notes. I had fallen victim to the traditional birthday prank. Today is my birthday. Kelli, Brian, Audrey, and Alyssa (four of our college students) had all visited my office last night and left their mark on my door. I slowly opened my door expecting to see toilet paper all over my office. I have spent many nights’s toilet papering my youth and college ministers’ offices. I got something much nicer. My office was covered with balloons and streamers. There was even a piñata, birthday cards, and a gift. I loved everything about it. It made my day.

It has finally happened. I have been writing this blog for over a year now and I have ran out of things to say. This is your chance to give some direction for this blog. Please comment and share ideas about what I should write about now. I’m wide open so this is your chance to pick the topic or ask a question. Ask away!
