This week I have been at Passportkids camp with a great group of our children. On Monday, as I was lugging bags up to the third floor, I thought, “Could God have really called me to a lifetime full of coming to summer camp?” I wasn’t looking forward to that future. Now, I can safely say that I hope God is. This was a great week of camp for both me and our kids.

On the first day, I asked God to renew my sense of calling and to give me a chance to minister that week. The week was full of forcing the kids to drink plenty of water, playing games, helping with missions, taking lots of pictures and finding myself knee deep in nasty smelling mud. However, I wouldn’t trade a moment of it for anything. In the middle of all that, God spoke to me. He gave me a fresh sense of calling and renewed my passion.

I went to camp expecting to have a fun time. I didn’t expect that God would remind me of the calling and passion he had placed in my heart for ministry. Sometimes it takes being forced out of your normal routine to experience God. There is something very freeing about dancing, playing and acting like an idiot all in the name of God with a bunch of kids. This week has reminded me that being a Christian should be fun.

Don’t be surprised if you find me singing the fruit song to myself or smiling extra big in the weeks ahead. I’m going to try and hold on to the joy and passion I have found this week. If you do find me dancing down the hall or playing Ninja with a group of kids, I hope you will join me. I promise you’ll have some fun and you might even experience God in a new way.
