Almost every night I get a phone call from my cousin, Valerie. Often she calls because her daughter, Madison wants to talk to me. Madison is two years old so our conversations aren’t very deep. Most of the time I end up rambling on and on while she says “yes” or “no” in the background.

A few weeks ago I learned that Madison liked the song “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas. One night I decided to rap a little of the song to Madison. She quickly caught on and began to yell, “Boom Boom.” Now almost every night Madison requests the song and we yell it over the phone. I am currently molding Madison into the next great rapper.

It is funny what kids pick up. Most of the time kids seem to pick up on the smallest detail of a conversation and repeat it over and over again. If you have ever accidently said a bad word in front of a child you know that’s the one word they decide to pick up.

Not only do children pick up our words but also our actions. They do this because we are their role models. They are looking at us to see how they should act and talk. If we want our children to grow up acting like, talking like, and being a Christian we need to model that for them. If we aren’t living Christian lives we can’t expect our children too either.

Re: Rapping on the Phone

"Tis an awesome responsibility but that, I think, is what God intended parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and "all who live in the village to do".
