As I write this blog, I am surrounded by thoughts of Christmas. I thought that I would share a Christmas memory with you. When I was a child I came up with what I thought was a great Christmas plan. I knew that Santa would be coming through my fireplace. I also knew that a few toys from Santa were good, but all of Santa’s toys would be better. I built a trap for Santa. I had rope and bells tied all over the fireplace. My plan was for Santa to get trapped in the rope and then the bells would wake me up so I could grab him or at least his presents.
The next morning I woke up early. Rushed to the living room and found Santa in my trap. The real Santa had placed a small Santa doll in my rope. The doll was hung by his neck in front of my fireplace. I learned my lesson, the next Christmas I had an even better trap planned. Year after year I would create a fool proof trap with my Dad for Santa. I never caught the real Santa but every year I caught that same little Santa doll.
It is safe to say that as a child I fell into the trap of Christmas. For me the holiday was about getting lots and lots of presents. I became trapped by greed. Be careful this Christmas season not to get trapped by greed. Christmas is about so much more then presents. It is about the birth of a baby who would save us all from the great trap of sin. Don’t forget to include Jesus in your holiday plans.
