Message from the Pastor
Welcome to the website of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive! I hope this site gives you a glimpse of who we are, what we are doing, and where we are going. We would love for your virtual experience here to result in a personal experience with us as we seek know, worship, and serve the Triune God.
First Baptist Church is a diverse congregation of Christians from various backgrounds who share a common faith and mission in life. We are a people on a journey with Jesus Christ, and one another, in the midst of a constantly changing world. Here we are more than a group of individuals—we are a community of faith.
First Baptist Church is a place where you can encounter God through genuine worship, serious study of the scriptures, and the caring fellowship of other believers. Ultimately our love for God must result in love for our neighbor. This is why the church exists—to be the Body of Christ in the world.

Dr. Dennis R. Atwood
Dr. Atwood has served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive since 2003. Prior to coming to North Carolina, he served congregations in Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Dr. Atwood received his B.A. from Mississippi College, 1985; Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, 1989; and Doctor of Ministry degree from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO, 1999. He also completed post-doctoral study at Duke University Divinity School in 2005-06. Dr. Atwood has had articles and sermons published in Baptists Today, Preaching, The Christian Ministry, and others. Dennis is married to Ann who teaches at Carver Elementary School, and they are both natives of Mississippi. The Atwoods have three sons—Dylan, Cole, and Noah. Besides his number one pastime of spending time with Ann and their boys, Dennis also enjoys golf, running, and Duke basketball. Email Dr. Atwood.
