First Baptist Church of Mount Olive is a church with deep roots grounded in our history and tradition. We have continued a commitment to tradition for over 156 years while embracing a new spirit of innovation.
Meet the Team

Dr. Atwood has served as our pastor since 2003. He has also served churches in Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi. He received his B.A. from Mississippi College, Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Doctor of Ministry degree from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Atwood has also completed post-doctoral studies at Duke University Divinity School.
Dennis is the author of two books: Words That Shape and Form: A 40 Day Journey in Spiritual Formation, 2008, and Deep Faith: Invitation to a Deeply Rooted Life, 2014. He has also served as Adjunct Instructor of Religion at the University of Mount Olive.

Beth is a native of our area and a lifelong member of First Baptist. She also teaches 7th grade English Language Arts at Mount Olive Middle School.
In 2023, Beth was awarded the North Carolina Center For The Advancement Of Teaching’s Beginning Teacher of the Year.
